Bio

We are excited to welcome one of our very own TarHeel endo superstars to speak at our 2021 fall meeting. Please help us welcome Dr Johnah Galicia!

Dr. Johnah Galicia received his Certificate and Masters in Endodontics degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014 as an American Association of Endodontists (AAE) Foundation Educator Fellow. Before his residency, Dr. Galicia was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Louisville. He earned a PhD in Oral Biology from Niigata University in Japan and a Diploma in Clinical Dentistry from the University of Rennes 1 in France. He was a general dentist and a faculty member of his dental school alma mater, the Manila Central University in the Philippines, before entering the PhD program.

At present, Dr. Galicia is a Clinical Lecturer in Endodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute of the University College London in England. Prior to that, he was the Director of the Graduate Program and a tenured Associate Professor in Endodontics at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. He also practiced endodontics at La Clínica dela Raza in the Bay Area.

Dr. Galicia served twice in the Research and Scientific Affairs Committee of the AAE. Currently, he is a test construction committee member of the American Dental Association’s National Board for Dental Education (NBDE) and Advanced Dental Admissions Test (ADAT). In addition to his clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Galicia has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles in reputable international scientific journals and has presented his work international forums. Dr. Galicia is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.

Part 1 - Vital Pulp Therapy: A New Look at the Evidence


With the current push to preserve pulp tissue, this presentation will examine the methods, outcomes and evidence related to vital pulp therapy (VPT). Will this push yield some bearing on mainstream endodontic therapy?


Objectives:

  1. Review the indications, procedures and outcomes of VPT.

  2. Critique the levels of evidence on VPT.

  3. Discuss the current trends on VPT.


Part 2 – Where to from now? The Impact of Covid-19 on the Education and Practice of Endodontics


As the most recent pandemic in modern history, Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on every aspect of human life. This presentation will discuss the impact to and modifications by endodontic educators and clinicians in carrying out their tasks in the midst of a global catastrophe. The lasting effects of the pandemic will also be tackled.


Objectives:

  1. Describe the chronology of events leading to the Covid-19 pandemic.

  2. Illustrate the modifications employed by endodontic educators and clinicians to mitigate SARS-COV-2 outbreaks.

  3. Discuss the future of endodontic education and practice against the backdrop of Covid-19.
